Long-term car rental in Alicante: a month, three months or the whole winter

A winter on the Costa Blanca usually means more than a trip from the airport: shopping, doctor’s appointments, visits to friends and days out along the coast. If you are staying for a month or longer, a car for the whole period is often simpler than booking it again and again.

Here is what to compare, which terms to agree before you book, and how long-term rental works at Family Car.

What to compare

Ask for the total cost for your exact dates, not only the price per day. Compare offers for the same dates and the same car.

Keep the deposit separate from the rental price. You need it at collection and get it back at return, so it affects how much money you need at the start, not what the rental costs.

What to agree before you book

For a rental of a month or longer, get answers to these questions in writing:

  1. Total. What is the total for my collection and return dates, and what does it include?
  2. Payment. Do I pay for the whole period in advance, or can I pay monthly?
  3. Deposit. How much is it, how do I pay it, and when do I get it back?
  4. Extension. How and by when should I ask to extend the rental?
  5. Maintenance and help. Who arranges routine servicing during a long rental, and whom do I call if the car breaks down?
  6. Mileage and trips. Is there a mileage limit? Can I drive abroad?
  7. Drivers. Can another person drive, and how is a second driver added?

If you are travelling from the UK

A long winter stay also depends on how long you may stay in Spain. According to the UK government’s travel advice for Spain, people travelling on a British citizen passport can travel without a visa to the Schengen area, which includes Spain, for up to 90 days in any 180-day period, and earlier visits within those 180 days count towards the 90 days. Three calendar months can add up to more than 90 days, so count the actual days of your stay. Plan the dates first, then book the car for them.

Long-term rental at Family Car

  • Price. The minimum rental period is 3 days. Rentals of 7 days or more are discounted, and rentals of a month or longer have special prices. Current prices are on the car cards in our fleet and in the FAQ.
  • Payment. Payment is usually made in advance. For a long rental, monthly payment on the 1st of each month can be agreed with our manager. Payment is accepted in cash or by bank transfer from your own account to the company account; no credit card is required.
  • Deposit. The deposit is returned immediately when you return the car. The amount for each car is in the FAQ.
  • Availability. Which cars are free in winter depends on how busy they are, so send your dates as early as you can.
  • The car. The specific car is agreed when you book; we do not replace the car you chose without your knowledge.
  • Maintenance. Family Car arranges servicing at authorised service centres.
  • Help. Our support is available 24/7.
  • Mileage. There is no mileage limit, in Spain or abroad. Travel abroad must be approved by our manager in advance.
  • Second driver. A second driver is free of charge and must be included in the rental agreement. This can be done at the start or at any time during the rental by sending scans of their passport or ID card and driving licence.
  • Extension. Let us know at least 24 hours before the current rental ends. An extension is possible only with our approval and full prepayment for the new rental period.

The minimum driver age is 27 years, and the minimum driving experience is 1 year.
