Alicante-Elche airport (ALC) is the nearest airport to Torrevieja. Torrevieja is about 40 minutes away by road, and Orihuela Costa, which includes La Zenia, lies a little further south. There is no train from the airport, so the choice is between a bus, a taxi, a pre-booked transfer and a car.
Here is what each option involves, based on the airport’s and operators’ own information.
By bus: direct to Torrevieja
According to Aena, the airport operator, Costa Azul runs a direct airport–Torrevieja bus with no intermediate stops, and the journey takes about 40 minutes. The bus leaves from the bus stop on the departures road outside the terminal.
In Torrevieja the line ends at the bus station on Calle del Mar, according to the route map of line L40. The Costa Azul website sells tickets online, and the Torrevieja tourism office links to the timetable and tickets. Check the times for your travel date, especially for a late-evening arrival.
By bus to La Zenia or Orihuela Costa
We found no bus that goes from the airport straight to La Zenia or Orihuela Costa. None of the lines on Aena’s list goes there.
Costa Azul’s local lines for Orihuela Costa include line 38 between Torrevieja hospital and La Zenia Boulevard. The airport bus ends at the bus station, not at the hospital, so you would also need to get from the bus station to the hospital. Check both timetables before you rely on this route.
By taxi
Taxis wait at the rank on the arrivals road. Aena’s taxi page says the airport service is run by Radio Taxi Elche and Servitaxi Elche, and that airport fares include an airport supplement.
A trip to Torrevieja, La Zenia or Orihuela Costa leaves the municipality of Elche, so the interurban tariff of the Valencian Region applies. It is charged by the meter, and the current rates are set in the resolution published in the DOGV on 30 December 2025. We found no official fixed price for the airport to Orihuela Costa, so ask the driver for an estimate before you set off.
By pre-booked transfer
A private transfer is arranged in advance with a provider, who drives you to your address. Confirm the exact meeting point at the airport when you book. Before you pay, check:
- whether the price is fixed and what it includes (luggage, night or weekend surcharges);
- what happens if your flight is delayed;
- whether child seats are provided for your children’s ages and weights.
By car
With a car, you drive straight to your address and have transport for the rest of the stay. From the airport to the south there is a choice between toll and toll-free roads. Our guide to tolls, low-emission zones and speed cameras explains which AP-7 sections are tolled.
If you travel with children, check the child seats in advance. Our guide to child seats in a rental car explains the rules and what to ask for.
